The Metropolitan Builders & Contractors Association of New Jersey (MetroBCA) proudly hosted its First Annual Build My Future: Construction Career Day & Industry Showcase on October 15, 2025, at the Franklin Elementary School Meeker Street Pavilion in Succasunna, NJ.

This hands-on, career-focused event gave high school students across New Jersey the opportunity to explore the world of residential construction and the skilled trades. More than 500 students from 11 schools participated in interactive learning labs, equipment demonstrations, and industry showcases — all designed to spark interest in construction-related careers and connect students with professionals shaping the future of the trades.

“Build My Future NJ is more than an event — it’s an investment in tomorrow’s workforce,” said Michele Leppard, Executive Officer of MetroBCA. “The enthusiasm and engagement from students, schools, and our industry partners prove there’s a bright future ahead for residential construction.”

The event featured over 25 interactive learning stations, including carpentry, electrical, cabinetry, roofing, plumbing, and design. Students gained first-hand experience and insight into what it takes to build a career in construction — from planning and design to hands-on craftsmanship.

MetroBCA extends its deepest appreciation to all of the volunteers and exhibitors who made this inaugural event a success. A special thank-you goes to our dedicated chairs — Build My Future Chair, Dane Rohmann of Exceptional Flooring Concepts, and Workforce Development Chair, Wendy Scott of Timeless Closets and Cabinetry — for their leadership, countless volunteer hours, and unwavering commitment to workforce development.

“We’re thrilled to bring this nationally recognized program to New Jersey for the first time,” said Dane Rohmann, Chair of the Build My Future planning committee. “It’s a powerful way to introduce students to high-paying, high-demand career paths while connecting them directly with real industry professionals.”

Wendy Scott, Chair of the Workforce Development Committee, shared her gratitude:

“A huge thank you goes to Frank Caccavale for securing this year’s location and managing the many logistical details behind such an important program. With over 500 students from 11 schools this was a tremendous endeavor. The energy and commitment of our committee demonstrated that this event was more than just a day—it’s a movement for the future of our industry.”

“Thanks to our sponsors, exhibitors, and volunteers, these students left with new perspectives and inspiration,” added Leppard.

The next Build My Future NJ event is already being planned, with the date to be determined. Schools, sponsors, and industry professionals interested in participating in next year’s event are encouraged to visit www.metrobca.organd contact Michele Leppard at Mleppard@Metrobca.org for more information.
